Ginkofar® forte Ginkgo bilobae folium extr. Siccum Composition Each tablet contains 80 mg of the dry extract from Ginkgo bilobae leafs, containing 24% ginkgoflavonglycosydes, which respects to 19,2 % of ginkgoflavonglycosydes, and the following auxiliary substances: lactose, polyvinylpirolidone, polyethylene glycol, hydroxypropylmethylocellulose, magnesium stearate, titanium dioxide, colloidal silica, ferrous oxide. Mechanism of action
Ginkofar forte increases tissue tolerance, especially brain tissue, to ischemia, reduces appearance of cerebral and retinal oedema, and impairs their resorption. The drug inhibits age-related reduction of choliergic and adrenergic a2 receptors, improves learning and memory ability. This combination abolishes vasoconstriction, decreases blood viscosity and platelet aggregation, leading to increased blood flow through the tissue microvessels. Extract obtained from Ginkgo bilobae neutralizes free radicals and exerts neuroprotective activity.
Clinical activity of Ginkofar forte consists of: - improving cerebral blood flow and peripheral blood flow through lower extremities,
- protection of the cell against hypoxia,
- inhibition of platelet aggregation and increasing blood fluidity.
Therapeutical indications Ginkofar forte is used in disturbances of: - cerebral circulation with associated symptoms as: difficulty in concentration and memory disturbances, vertigo and headaches, tinnitus,
- peripheral circulation with associated disturbances in blood supply to lower extremities - feeling of cold and pain of the feet, impaired hearing and sight.
Ginkofar forte is also used in atherosclerosis. Contraindications Allergy to any of the drug components, poor drug tolerance. Warnings and precautions The drug is safe and its intake does not require any particular precautions. Use during pregnancy and lactation No adverse effects of the Ginkgo bilobae extract to the foetus or breast-feeding babies are known. However, because of general medical reasons, Ginkofar forte should not be used during pregnancy or lactation. Influence on ability to drive and operate machinery Ginkofar forte does not exert negative effects on psychophysical efficiency and ability to drive. Interactions Ginkgo biloba extract should not be administrated together with long-term aspirin, warfarin and thiazide diuretics therapy. Dosage and administration Ginkofar forte is for oral use. The preparation should taken after a meal with some liquid.
In cerebral circulation disturbances: 1 tablet taken two ? three times daily.
In peripheral circulation disturbances: 1 tablet taken two times daily.
Basic therapy should last for 8-12 weeks. Following substantial therapy, recommended further treatment is 1 tablet taken two times daily. Overdose Following single or repeated overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances, flight of ideas and headache may occur. Undesirable effects Gastrointestinal disturbances are rarely observed.
